What's up with the title? Yes, well let me explain. When I refer to 'our generation', I mean our age group, which would be age 13 - 14 (with the exception to Madhu who is 12). Anyway. 'Their generation' refers to the kids who would currently be in grade 3 - 5. We both generations are very different. I think it's mainly because they have younger parents than we do (no offence to the parents, you're all amazing and we love you, sincerely) but it's true. What are those differences? Ah well, there are many so let's try to list them out.
Note: This does not apply to every child in both generations. Some have had it far different.
1. When I was 9 or 10, I definitely didn't have the latest mobile phone. To me, back then, it was an absolute privilege to be allowed to use the laptop but if we look at the new generation of kids, 60 - 75% of them have iPhones or Blackberry's or something of the sort. Considering the fact that the world has had a major economic boost, it's alright to say that there are a fairly large amount of rich people now so children of these rich people are bound to grow up in luxury.
2. This new generation is far mature than we were back then. The new generation knows things that we didn't know till we were in grade 5. I guess since they have better access to the internet and other sources of information, they would have a knowledge that is equal to ours at this age.
3. I've noticed and this fact honestly breaks my heart that this new generation don't read as much as we do. They're all to distracted by television or videos games. I know everyone in our generation don't read too but most of do. If the new generation is going to read, they sadly read books that really don't compare to the classics. For example Twilight. I think some girls in class have already read it. Personally, I think it was written beautifully but the idea of this vampire stalking and 'falling in love' with this girl, who is so helpless, weak and somewhat pathetic is not really such a mind gripping idea. And the thing with the sparkling? Seriously Stephanie Meyer? Seriously?
4. This point is one that most people have already pointed out thanks to 9gag, tumblr and such and such sites. The cartoons. With the exception to 'Adventure Time', 'The Amazing World of Gumball', 'The Misadventures of Flapjack', 'Phineas and Ferb' and 'Chowder', jeez do cartoons of this generation just make me want to facepalm. Not just the cartoons but the shows like 'Victorious' or 'Big Time Rush'? What happened to 'Drake and Josh' or 'That's So Raven' or 'The Rugrats'?
5. The music. Oh dear god, the music of this generation. (Kill me now). Jonas Brothers? Selena Gomez? I don't even know how to comment on this. I did this experiment on my cousin (he's 9) where I stated 'There's my Beatles shirt!' and my cousin was like, 'Why would you have a beetles shirt?' and I replied, 'Because, they are an amazing band, idiot.' And you wanna take a guess at his response? 'Beatles is a band?' *facepalm*
6. We've gone from Sega Portable and Gameboys to PSP's. I guess this is a improvement but still a difference between the two generations.
7. Dating. I know this 10 year old who's parents are begging for her to get a boyfriend. Are you kidding me? For the love of all that is holy and right, let the kid have a childhood. Most kids of the new generation have boyfriends and girlfriends. Unlike us who once believed that the opposite sex had 'cooties'.
I think I've said enough by now. This isn't meant to offend any of you. It's just a few facts. I'm not saying that we're the superior generation (even though half this post seems like that). We're different, they are different. It's like how we are different from our parents generation. The world grows and changes. It's always changing and we're just going to have to accept that. I guess..that's the point.
